We realise that for some of you, getting to a small town in another country will not be that straightforward. Before we give you some tips on how to get there easily, we just want you to know how much we appreciate you making the journey.
The Easy Part: Travelling to Belgium
- We recommend using the Eurostar to get to Belgium. If you book well in advance, this should be reasonably affordable. While there might be cheaper alternatives out there, the 1 hour 45 minute journey from London to Brussels is by far the most convenient way as you will always go from hub to hub.
- The Eurostar leaves from London St Pancras International, and takes just over two hours to arrive at Brussels South (Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-Midi). Once you arrive there, you will find easy connections to the rest of the country (it is a small country).
- Due to the country's modest size, trains are cheap (state owned and funded) and do not require pre-booking of any sort. Seating is also not reserved.
- There is an option on the Eurostar website to book tickets for a train directly to Antwerp, which is closer to Kruibeke, where we are getting married. This requires you to change in Brussels to any train going to Antwerp.
- The last leg of this journey would then depend on where your accommodation in Belgium is located.
The Trickier Part: Getting to Bazel
We are planning to arrange transport from the city where most people are staying (more information on that here) to Bazel on the day of the ceremony. If you are not planning to use this, please follow these steps:
- Take the train to Antwerp (Antwerpen Centraal)
- Take the metro to Linkeroever (Line 9 or 15)
- Get off at "Van Eeden" - this leg of the journey should take you about 15 minutes
- Emerge from the stinky metro and take bus 95 or 99
- Get off at "Bazel Dorp" - this part should take you about 35 minutes
- From Bazel Dorp, make your way to the village square and look for a large medieval gate
- Follow the path to the castle
- Please note that metro and bus have to be paid in advance using the machines
As you can see, this is quite the hassle so we recommend using the transport that we will arrange on the day. To do this, please liaise with guests you know to find out where they are staying, and inform us of your arrangements in the RSVP questionnaire or individually so that we can schedule a pick-up at a central location.
